Cullinan Diamond Mine Centre

Experience a tour of a working diamond mine! Located 20 minutes’ drive east of Tshwane (Pretoria), the mining town of Cullinan is home to the Premier Diamond Mine, also known as the Cullinan Mine following the discovery in 1905 of the largest rough diamond in history. Thomas Cullinan, owner of the Premier Mine at the turn of the century, was a South African explorer. The Transvaal government bought the stone from him and presented it to King Edward VII on the monarch’s birthday.
The mine is the third richest diamond producer in South Africa and its functioning open pit is four times larger than the well-known Big Hole in Kimberley.

Regina Mundi is the largest Roman Catholic Church in South Africa. The Latin ‘Reginae Mundi’ means “Queen of the World” and refer to the Virgin Mary. The church was built in 1961 and official opened on the 24th of July 1962 by Johannes Baptista Montini, a cardinal of Milan.
Robben Island Tour

A bus takes you to the lime quarry where Mr. Mandela and his fellow prisoners did hard labour. Additional stopovers include the Kramat (shrine) of Tuan Guru (a Muslim leader), the Lepers’ Graveyard and the house where Robert Sobukwe lived in solitary confinement for nine years.
